Riverstown and surrounding area
The world outside Riverstown often impacted on our lives as children in special and mostly beautiful ways. Trips to the Rath, Balgeeth, Bettystown, Bellewstown, Fairyhouse, Painstown, Croke Park, and a million other places with memories that are unique and magical. If you have a story that can add to the magic, please E-Mail!
The
seaside at Bettystown, Laytown, Gormanstown - a special trip on a Sunday after
Mass, if the weather was fine enough for a "dip". Jimmy Woods was the Taximan.
Who could ever forget the luxurious leather seats and the ornate fixtures on his
50's Ford ( Reg. AI 6000?). Above, among the sand dunes in Bettystown, the
experience of a lifetime with family.
We
would love to identify all of the people in this special photo taken around 1918
- '20. Please send an E-Mail if you happen upon these beautiful people on the
Internet, especially if you know any of them. The photo was probably taken near
Hammondtown, Clonalvey.
A
visit from friends in Dublin was a time of great happiness.
A
familiar scene back in the '30s and '40s - the horses are petted, spoken
to and well cared for after a "harrowing" day in the fields.
Willie and Christo remained great friends and shared a passion for
family, neighbours, the land, and craftmanship.
Three
beautiful girls with two future stars! Can you recognise them? Visiting
by relatives, neighbours and friends was a highlight of the evening or
the weekend. The kettle was swung, the tea made and the children
listened in awe as adults shared stories and swapped news and the odd
bit of gossip.
Brothers and great friends. Do
you know them?
